Social Media and disabilities

Social media is now so essential to our existence that we cannot really separate it from our exhilarating hours.
We are so engaged to our electronic devices in a way that it minimizes the importance of every other activity!
Despite all disadvantages of the excessive use of the social media, we cannot neglect its importance, especially to people with special needs, or who have some kind of disability, preventing them from interacting with the world…
With this insane speed of technology nowadays, only few devoted people or organizations are attentive to the special needs of those forgotten people in some societies, leaving them to their cocoons. This is why social media played a major role in their lives. It has changed their daily routines, by giving them the chance to participate, to be there, and to feel alive again…
What their community could not give them, internet has provided them with a platform to share and to benefit from social life.
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and other sites became crucial, they allowed them to integrate in the public space.
In my opinion, Social Media has empowered people with disabilities, as well as giving them a place to discuss all kinds of sensitive issues with their friends and societies, even if the resources are electronic… the feelings remain real in a virtual way…
